EverPeace Institute and the African Union Commission have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on joint research initiatives, capacity building, and policy advisory services.
Everpeace Institute for Research and Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the African Union Commission's Peace and Security Department, establishing a formal framework for research collaboration, capacity building, and policy advisory services. The partnership was formalised at a ceremony at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa on 28 April 2025, attended by senior representatives of both institutions.
Under the MoU, Everpeace Institute will serve as an independent research partner to the AU Peace and Security Department, providing evidence-based analysis on conflict dynamics, early warning systems, and the effectiveness of AU peace operations. The partnership will also include a capacity-building component, with Everpeace researchers delivering structured training to AU staff on research methodology, data analysis, and evidence-based policy formulation.
The collaboration reflects the AU's increasing recognition that durable peace requires sustained investment in research and evidence. For Everpeace Institute, the partnership provides access to the AU's continental networks and policy processes, enabling the Institute to ensure that its research reaches the decision-making bodies where it can have the greatest impact.
"This partnership is a natural alignment of missions," said the Everpeace Institute Director of Policy Engagement. "The AU has the convening power and the mandate; we have the research capacity and the evidence. Together, we can produce knowledge that genuinely shapes how the continent approaches its most difficult peace and security challenges." The first joint research project under the MoU — on the effectiveness of AU electoral assistance missions — will begin in June 2025.
